| The QuantumHeat Pack contains sodium acetate, a form of salt, which under normal conditions in an open container will change from a liquid to a solid (freeze) at 130*F (54*C). By placing this solution in a sealed container, the solution can be cooled well below this temperature (as low as 14*F) (-10*C). Flexing the patented stainless steel "trigger" within the sealed container causes a single molecule of liquid to crystallize which starts a chain reaction causing the entire solution to change from a liquid to a solid. This phase change causes the pack to heat to approximately 130*F (82* below the boiling temperature of water, 212*F). By placing the pack in water with a temperature greater than 135*F (57*C), the crystals are returned to a liquid state. this process can be repeated hundreds of times, provided the container(pack) remains sealed. Over long periods of use, small snowflake-like crystals may appear in the pack. These crystals will not affect the performance of the pack. Sometimes it is possible to eliminate them by boiling the pack for an extended period of time. Keep the pack in a liquid state during storage periods of two or more weeks. |
